Jay is a Senior Advisor to Compliance Systems Legal Group, a boutique law firm focused exclusively on compliance, ethics and corporate governance. Prior to that, Jay was a Managing Director in the Risk Advisory practice at Deloitte, where he helped companies in insurance and other industries develop and strengthen their compliance programs; conduct compliance risk assessments; manage required remediation of compliance issues; and address laws and regulations in critical areas including sales practices, data privacy, and anti-corruption.
Before joining Deloitte, Jay had more than 20 years’ experience as a compliance professional, most recently serving as the Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Assurant, Inc., a global, specialty insurance company. Jay built and led Assurant’s comprehensive program to identify and address the legal and regulatory requirements for Assurant's varied, world-wide insurance businesses. He also conducted investigations of significant compliance matters and due diligence of new business opportunities. Prior to joining Assurant, Jay was a compliance officer in the insurance, health-care and information-services industries and also had his own compliance consulting practice.
Jay served in a number of senior positions in New York City and State government, including First Deputy District Attorney in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, where he led a team of 50 appeals experts, successfully argued a case in the United States Supreme Court, and helped to prosecute high-profile homicide cases.
Justin is a cybersecurity subject matter expert who is also a corporate attorney who specializes in M&A and other business transactions.
He has developed deep subject matter expertise in cybersecurity as he believes cybersecurity is a strategic business enterprise risk. He quarterbacks the design and implementation of cyber plans as well as handling incident response. He also brings a cyber lens to business and legal issues in day to day operations, mergers and acquisitions, investment capital transactions and related due diligence matters, cyber insurance, vendor and customer contracts and incident response. He conducts realistic industry specific cyber breach incident response tabletop exercises that facilitate the board and c-suite identifying and addressing gaps in their thinking on cybersecurity issues.
He also nationally recognized keynote speaker on topics that include cybersecurity, blockchain, and AI. In October 2017, he gave a Ted Talk entitled "Why You Hold the Key to Cybersecurity."
